WSK Euro - Muro Leccese - 3 March 2013
Marco Zanchetta fought inch by inch during the 20 laps of the race. The 21-year-old driver managed to win thanks to a final sprint which allowed him to win with a 2 millisecond lead over the excellent Riccardo Negro, 2012 Champion of the WSK Master Series.
Zanchetta's victory in the second final of this opening race of the WSK Euro Series arrived after a series of good performances achieved during the weekend on the competitive RS10 Maranello chassis powered by the TM engine prepared by Rizzi. After setting the fourth time in qualifying, Zanchetta made himself conspicuous already in Saturday's first final thanks to a good third place conquered behind Negro and the Czech Midrla. His masterpiece, anyway, arrived on Sunday, during the second racing day. He won the two morning heats and then, in the last final where he started from the pole, Zanchetta kept the lead for the first 18 laps. Then he managed to regain it thanks to an awesome overtaking manoeuvre right on the finishing line and in front of an overexcited attendance.
“The arrival was really exciting - said Marco Zanchetta immediately after getting down his kart - and, actually, I thought I could re-gain the leadership before the last bend, but my rival closed the trajectory. So, I went wide to be faster after the bend, I speeded up right before the finishing line and I overtook him! It was fantastic. This beginning of season was really positive for us, beginning with the Winter Cup. We have been very competitive since the beginning, both us and the SG race Team of Stefano Griggio. A good start for Rizzi, the TM engine preparer, and Maranello Kart which gives me the opportunity to run. Finally, I'd like to say thank you to my mechanic Stefano Fontana, who assisted me all alone throughout the whole weekend. A 'do-it-yourself' which is even more satisfactory for the final result. Now I'm going to take part in all the WSK Euro Series and I think I stand a good chance to fight for the KZ2 title."
This is Luca Iannaccone's comment, Maranello Kart responsible: “Great satisfaction for Marco Zanchetta's success, who managed to win also because he never gave up. Since the Winter Cup we were sure of our competitiveness and, now, getting this result in such an important event as the WSK Euro Series confirms that our equipment is absolutely performing. We are taking part in this KZ2 championship with only a driver, who is now leading the ranking. We are really satisfied."
