WSK EURO - Sarno
Sarno (Salerno). Once again Marco Zanchetta and Maranello Kart win in the WSK Euro Series in KZ2 and, this time too, their victory is terrific! In Sarno (Italy), the International Circuit Napoli hosted on of those events to be remembered in the history of karting thanks to a thrilling sprint final which deserved a standing ovation. The leading actor of this spectacular show of international karting was the Italian Marco Zanchetta, leader of the WSK Euro Series championship. Here in Sarno, Zanchetta had another glorious day in his battle to keep the head of the championship behind the wheel of the excellent Maranello RS10 powered by Tm. Despite a couple of unlucky episodes, such as the contact which sent him spinning at the first lap of one of the heats while he was leading and the retirement in another heat after another contact, Zanchetta had an awesome reaction and achieved terrific recoveries. In Final 1 he managed to finish sixth; in Final 2, thanks to another incredible recovery, he excited the fans when he won beating in second position his toughest rival, Riccardo Negro. Zanchetta is definitely a talented driver at the top of the international KZ2 category, also thanks to the excellent assistance of the Maranello team and to its top level chassis and engine. This is his fourth win of the season in the WSK Euro Series; Zanchetta is the indisputed leader of the championship with his 33 point lead over Negro, the only driver who can threaten him in the race towards the championship in the last round of the Series on 2nd June in Genk. “We must always try to give your best - said Marco Zanchetta after the race - and thanks to my will power I managed to put the race back on the right track. I believe this was my most arduous victory. Many compliments to my rival, Riccardo Negro. He is a quick driver and he showed to be very fast in KZ1 too. About the two accidents I had, I was particularly disappointed when I got hit from behind because that contact prevented me from verifying a different technical solution we adopted. However, I'd like to say thank you to all those who assisted me, Maranello kart, my father, Rizzi, SG Race and my mechanic.” This is the comment of Alessandro Levratti (Sports Manager): “At the beginning of the weekend we still missed something to be really competitive. We worked hard on the setup of both the engine and of the chassis and, in the Final, we saw the results of our work. Despite the two accidents, Zanchetta reacted in the right way. The chassis was perfect and thanks to the high level of performance of the engine and the skills of our driver we achieved a great win."
KZ2 standings after the third round of Sarno: 1. Zanchetta points 202; 2. Negro 169; 3. Midrla 115; 4. Celenta 52; 5. Juodvirsis 50; 6. Dragan 41; 7. Johansson e Antonsen 37; 9. Cunati 27; 10. Roy 25.. Next appointment of the WSK Euro Series: 2nd June in Genk (Belgium).
