WSK Series in Sarno
The first race of the WSK Series in Sarno surprises Maranello drivers with alternating results: protagonists of an excellent crescendo up until the pre-final, then a drop in performance for the feature race. The team leaves with some bitterness, considering how well they did on the Sarno track until then, despite the heavy rains and difficult track conditions.
Circuito Internazionale Napoli – Sarno - 23 March 2014 Four Maranello drivers line up in KZ2 for the opening event of the WSK Super Master Series. Weather conditions, with showers leading to torrential rainfall, certainly doesn’t help, but Camplese, Zanchetta, Bernardotto and Grant are not caught off guard and battle hard since the early phases of the weekend. Zanchetta is 19th in the qualifyings, then does excellent heats, scoring a 4th place finish, and rises to 13th in the penalties ranks. In the pre-final he does even better: at the end of a careful and mature race, he is 5th. Too bad that the final doesn’t follow the same trend and leaves the Maranello driver with a 29th place result that doesn’t reflect what the team proved capable of on track. The same thing goes for Bernardotto. Enrico struggles a bit more in timed practice (29th) and throughout the heats (at the end he is 31st), but in the pre-final he does outstanding and, climbing up 7 positions, he closes 9th. However, having to start from mid-field in the final hinders him: he ends 28th and leaves with some regret. His New Zealand teammate Grant more or less runs through the same script: he delays quite a bit in the qualifyings and heats, then does a great rebound to 12th in his pre-final and conquers his right to contend the final. Here he ends 34th. Unlucky is the name of the game for Camplese. In the qualifyings he is the fastest of the Maranello drivers (18th overall). Then come the heats: the first two give him trouble and a great performance in the third one, with an 8th place finish, isn’t enough to rise above 40th in the charts. Starting from the rear, Lorenzo is then unable to qualify for the final. But, knowing how determined he is, the result can only push him to demand a payback from the next round in Castelletto di Branduzzo, scheduled for 10-13 April.
